Another Westmeath councillor has been addressing safety concerns after the unannounced arrival of asylum seekers.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their local community, according to a Westmeath councillor.
Hazel Smyth has been raising concerns over the unannounced arrival of asylum seekers to Kinnegad with her Green Party colleague, Minister for Integration Roderic O'Gorman.
Some of the asylum seekers have spoken out about poor conditions at Harry's Hotel, while others locally are questioning the suitability of the town given the shortage of the services.
There's also been one confirmed report of an assault on a man at the hotel earlier this week.
Councillor Smyth agrees that more engagement with the local community is crucial.
