The medicine shortage in Ireland has reached record-levels.

Ireland is going through a particularly difficult time with medicine shortages due to its smaller population and approach to generic drugs.

That's the view of a midlands pharmacist as the number of medicines out of stock in the country has reached a record high of 289.

Aspirin, antibiotics, medicine for depression and blood pressure medication are among those in short supply.

Eamonn Brady of Whelehan's Pharmacy in Mullingar says there's little to compel drug companies to sell their stock in Ireland:
