A man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of a midlands student in Limerick last year.
Joe Drennan was hit by a car at a bus stop on the Dublin Road in Castletroy on October 13th last year.
The 21 year old killed in this incident was a journalism student at the University of Limerick and was a native of Mountrath in Laois.
This morning, Gardaí arrested and charged 20 year old Kieran Fogarty of Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston in Limerick.
Appearing before Limerick District Court, he was charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death, one count of driving without insurance and one count of driving without a driver’s license.
Judge Carole Anne Coolican refused an application from the defence to have a bail hearing heard in camera.
She said, “Justice needs to be administered in public.”
Mr. Fogarty was held in continuing custody pending a bail hearing later today.
