Massive €113 Million Fund Approved For Athlone Water Services

The project includes the construction of a new very large-scale pumping station.

Water services in Athlone are set to benefit from a massive €113 million investment.

The project includes the construction of a new very large-scale pumping station at Golden Island, as well as another pumping station at Coosan, as the existing one does not have the capacity to deal with future demands on water.

Also included are plans for a new 1.8km long tunneled sewer as well as another 1km long new open cut sewer and mains, as well as two further tunneled crossings under the bed of the River Shannon. 

Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke has confirmed the funding, and expects it will accomodate the water needs in the area until at least 2050.
