New research from the Irish Farmers Journal also shows the amount of farmland being bought by beef farmers has fallen by 20 per cent over the past four years.

The annual Agricultural Land Price Report also shows sheep farmers paid the lowest price per acre in 2022 for farms.
Geographically Leinster had the highest average price per acre at €13,776 per acre.
In Laois had the biggest decline in the region - with prices now at an average of of just over €12,787 per acre, while it's €11,403 in Offaly and €10,792 in Westmeath - all three counties saw a drop in prices.
Meanwhile, farmland in Mayo shot up by 78% in price last year.
Land prices in Northern Ireland are also at record highs in all six counties.
