A midlands man says he had no doubts about saving his girlfriend's life, by donating his kidney.
Tubber woman Bríona Reynold's kidney function has been deteriorating for the last five years and had to be put on the transplant list.
It so happened her boyfriend of 11 years, Shane Hunter, from Athlone but based as a garda in Tullamore, was a suitable match.
He says he was aware of the risk involved, but was well informed and looked after.
After undergoing the procedure two weeks ago, they're looking forward to planning their wedding next year.
They're also encouraging others to consider donating.
