A midlands man who raised over $750,000 to support his family after being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, has passed away.
Portarlington's Jonathan McCowen had been suffering from ALS, and launched the 'Fight For Johnny's Girls' fundraiser last year, to secure a home for his wife and two daughters.
He hit his target last October, and used the money to buy a home in Brisbane.
Portarlington Lawn Tennis Club paid tribute to Mr. McCowen on Facebook, calling him a 'great sportsman, friend and true gentleman.'
Portarlington GAA have also paid a lengthy tribute to its former player, referring to him as a 'Rolls Royce,' and a 'leader with a teak toughness, savage work rate and huge competitive spirit.'
