A grant allowing prospective home-buyers to avail of funding to refurbish a vacant property hasn't brought down the number.
There are over 250 vacant properties in the midlands, according to the region's local authorities.
Westmeath County Council logged the most vacant dwellings with the Office of the Planning Regulator for 2022, at 108.
The local authority in Offaly designated 92 properties as vacant or derelict, while there were 56 logged in Laois.
Just over 30 applications have been submitted for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant in the region, which allows home buyers to avail of a grant of up to €50,000.
