Electric vehicle sales in particular have seen a huge increase.
New car registrations are continuing to soar in the midlands.
In new figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, Laois saw the largest year-on-year increase in the country in the first half of 2023, with over 10% more new cars, at 879.
However the highest number of new registrations in the region goes to Westmeath, at over one thousand, while 775 new cars were registered in Offaly.
Electric vehicles sales have also seen a huge increase, jumping from 280 to 417.
