Now's your chance to get a glimpse of the conflict 100 years ago.

A new exhibition of photos from the Irish Civil War is opening to the public in Westmeath next week.

It forms part of Westmeath County Council's Decade of Centenaries programme.

Titled Civil I Am, the exhibition showcases around 40 images from the conflict, all collected from various archives and libraries.

Curated by Galway-based historian Damien Quinn, the exhibition was recently displayed in Galway’s Club Áras na nGael, where it was visited by over 2,000 people. It was subsequently displayed in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre.

The exhibition will run from 10th-17th October in Mullingar Public Library, 18th-22th October in Castlepollard Public Library and 24th October-2th November in Athlone Public Library.

Historian in Residence Ian Kenneally will also provide short introductory talks, detailing aspects of the exhibition in the context of censorship and propaganda during the Civil War.

Those talks will take place in Mullingar Public Library on 11th October at 6.30pm, where Leas Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr. Aoife Davitt will officially launch the exhibition; and in Athlone Public Library on 27th October at 6.15pm, where Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr. Aengus O’Rouke will launch the exhibition.
