Offaly will be one of the counties to be involved in the initiative.
Offaly is to become part of a new programme by Eir that will teach parents about parental controls on their child's smartphone.
Smart Start is a free initative that offers a dedicated hour in Eir stores or parents to get advice on utilising these controls correctly.
The store in The Bridge Shopping Centre in Tullamore will run these sessions 10:30am to 11:30am Monday to Saturday, with staff being trained with input from CyberSafeKids.
The project follows research by eir which showed children in Ireland are getting their first phone at just nine years old on average.
