Storm Isha Leaves People Of The Midlands Counting The Cost

ESB Networks crews will be working through the day to reconnect customers.

Storm Isha has left a trail of destruction after battering the country overnight.

Thousands of people in the midlands are waking up this morning without power.

Gardaí say trees are down all across the midlands including, Rahan, Moate, Rhode, Cloghan, Rathangan, and Ratheniska.

Clonmich road in to Tullamore has been closed due to a fallen tree.

While an ESB pole is hanging across the road between the Bord Na Mona yard and the Cloneygowan Bridge.

Nationally, around 235 thousand homes, farms and businesses need to be reconnected.

Locally Westmeath has been hardest hit with over 6,000 premises without power.

The majority of that number reside in Athlone and Delvin, however faults are being reported in Kinnegad, Ballinderry, Moate and Garrycastle.

Elsewhere over a thousand customers are affected by power outages in Laois, with a similar number affected in Offaly.

ESB Networks is warning it could be a number of days before power is fully restored to all households.

While the red and orange wind warnings issued for a number of counties yesterday are now over, yellow alerts are still in place for Clare, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
