A local priest has been expressing his support for the measure.
44 different religious congregations have offered vacant properties to the Department of Integration to house Ukrainian refugees.
That's according to the Association of Leaders of Missionaries and Religious of Ireland, who put out the call to its members on the department's behalf.
AMRI estimates around 1,500 beds are being made available - it doesn't believe much of the accommodation needs extensive renovation.
The Irish Independent reports the state is poised to spend €5 million on maintaining the buildings.
