A new report has been examining the public transport demand in parts of the county.
Additional bus routes have been suggested as part of a bid to improve public transport in Westmeath.
A new pre-feasibility study is examining the public transport demand in Killucan, Kinnegad and the wider area.
The study found a shortfall in the provision of public transport in the area, and looks at options for addressing the issue.
It examines the possibility of re-opening Killucan Train Station, or building a new station in two other areas, in the Hill of Down, or Annascannon.
The bus approach would see the addition of three new trips between Mullingar and Kilcock, using the existing 115C service.
The study found while there is demand for a train station, selecting the rail option would not provide the greatest number of connections for residents in the area.
It ultimately identifies the Enhanced Bus Provision option as the Emerging Preferred Approach.
There would be the potential for between 150 and 200 boardings per day if a Westmeath train station were to be re opened.
