The Midlands Prison is full.
The institution recorded 100% capacity yesterday, with all 875 beds full.
Portlaoise Prison was at 93% capacity - the 229 bed facility had 213 prisoners in custody.
Overcrowding continues to be an issue at institutions in the country, as there are more inmates than there are beds availble.
There are 4,446 prisoners in Ireland, exceeding the 4,409 capacity.
The worst affected is a female prison in Limerick, where capacity was at 171%.
Former Assistant Governor of Portlaoise Prison, Ciaran Reilly, says prisoners are typically held in custody in prisons within their catchment area, and that can lead to overcrowding:
