Vaccine Roll-Out Begins In The Midlands Today

The vaccination programme is being rolled out at midlands hospitals.

The first covid-19 vaccine in the midlands will be administered in Tullamore Regional Hospital today. 

While vaccinations are expected to begin in Portlaoise later this week.

11 days after the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine arrived in Ireland, the first innoculation in the region will be given at Tullamore Hospital.

The Dublin Midlands Hospital Group say the vaccine is to be given out in Portlaoise Regional Hospital on Thursday. 

While plans are expected to be finalised later this afternoon for the rollout of the jab in Mullingar.

It comes as the Irish Nurses' and Midwives' Organisation estimate 50 nurses and midwives in the midlands are currently out of work due to covid-19.

All have either contracted the virus or are deemed close contacts.

However, more good news is on the horizon, a second shot might be approved for use in the EU within 24 hours.
