The train station in Killucan has been closed for generations.
A feasibility study on the potential re-opening of a Westmeath train station has been finalised.
Irish Rail was granted funding to conduct the research on Killucan Train Station last year, which was initially due to be presented in the summer of 2023.
The site has been closed since the 1960s, and has been subject to a two-decade-long campaign to get it back up and running.
The report is due to be forwarded to Westmeath County Council shortly, following approval from the Department of Transport.
The next stage in the process will feature stakeholder engagement with the local authority and nearby communities.
