But it doesn't look like they'll secure sick pay.
Greater protections for meat factory staff are set to be agreed by Siptu and Meat Industry Ireland next week.
The two bodies have been coming up with a code of practice, after outbreaks of covid-19 in factories, including at Rosderra Meats in Clara and Edenderry and Carroll Cuisine in Tulllamore.
Siptu's Greg Ennis is confident they'll agree safety measures to protect workers and their families and the continuity of production during the pandemic - but not a standardised sick pay and pension provision for the industry.
He says it's widely believed meat workers should have better terms and conditions:
