Importing Woodchips From Brazil To Burn At Midlands Power Plant Is "A Joke"

The woodchips will be used as a replacement for the peat products previously burned in Edenderry.

A rural Independent TD says importing woodchips from Brazil to burn at a powerplant in County Offaly, is an example of Ireland making an 'absolute fool' of itself on the world stage and is "the laughing stock of the western world". 

The Farmer's Journal reports the 40-thousand tonne shipment arrived at Foynes Port in Limerick on Sunday.

The woodchips will be used as a replacement for the peat products previously burned at the Edenderry power plant.
